NATURALEZA Y CULTURA

(5 days / 4 nights)

The Matsigenka people, whose language belongs to the Arawak linguistic family, have used this denomination because, in their original language, matsigenka can be translated as 'human beings' or 'people'. This denomination would have been generalized among the mestizo population after the Dominican missionaries published in the year 1918 the Dominican Missions magazine of Peru.

The Matsigenka people live mainly in the departments of Cusco and Madre de Dios. In addition to living in communities, there is a Matsigenka population in a situation of voluntary isolation and in initial contact in the Kugapakori, Nahua, Nanti and other Territorial Reserve, as well as in the Camisea, Cashiriari, Paquiría and Timpía river basins (MINCU 2015 ).
